FM spokesman invites Beijing, Manila to exercise restraint

TEHRAN, Jul. 25 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has invited China and the Philippines to exercise self-restraint in activities that would escalate disputes in the South China Sea.

Bahram Ghasemi, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, in response to a question about the Philippines-China dispute over the South China Sea, said “the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the policy of amity and principles of good neighborliness among South China Sea littoral states, and invites the sides involved in the conflict to exercise self-restraint.”

Ghasemi further expressed hope that the raised issues would be settled through peaceful means and dialogues between the two countries.

The Philippines and China are in dispute over maritime claims in the South China Sea in regard to who has the right to exploit resources in the strategic territory.
